April 4th, 2016 by Diana Coman
Gaxaro: Hello [09:20]
danielpbarron: hi [09:21]
mircea_popescu: aaaand a batch of 180 grubsilk thread in teh oven. my oh my. [09:26]
mircea_popescu: o hey Gaxaro [09:26]
Gaxaro: Yeah, i haven't been here for awhile now lol. [09:27]
mircea_popescu: so how goes ? [09:32]
Gaxaro: Going good, just been pretty much waiting until everyone knew about what the new prices should be and what not. [09:33]
mircea_popescu: prolly best wait moar. [09:37]
danielpbarron: i can give you work [10:04]
mircea_popescu: lol poor danielpbarron trying to help teh noobs. [10:05]
mircea_popescu: want a few books to distribute to the more worthy ones ? [10:06]
danielpbarron: sure [10:06]
mircea_popescu: aite remind me next we meet for something. [10:06]
mircea_popescu: so diana_coman do i get them boulders ? [10:44]
mircea_popescu: danielpbarron> i still have many low quality blueprints and i want to match up your low quality ingredients with them << is this better than crossing them ? [10:45]
mircea_popescu: ie, if you have bundles 10 and 100 and blueprints 10 and 100 - is it better to do 100 with 100 and 10 with 10 ? or on the contrary 10-100 and 100-10 ? [10:45]
mircea_popescu: alikim> I'm playing this game out of curiousity, whenever I want and do what I want, I don't need a second job, what for? I'm not gonna earn any real money here << :) [10:46]
mircea_popescu: "hey guise i will do the lowest power thing and belittle the results! agriculture doesn't produce any real food - i tried with a spoonful of dirt and one seed ; i dunno wtf is with the slot machines, nothing happens if you blow on them" [10:47]
mircea_popescu: such is the wunderbar life the computers have opened for humans. [10:48]
mircea_popescu: also diana_coman got any sg for sale ? [10:50]
mircea_popescu: incredible enough i actually finished my sg. [10:50]
diana_coman: mircea_popescu, 583 sg 228q [10:57]
diana_coman: for them boulders gotta wait a few more hours [10:57]
mircea_popescu: 650k the sg ? and do you mind pushing the auction close a few hours down ? not like anyone bid ; and wtf are they gonna bid, 1k more ? [10:58]
mircea_popescu: im outta boulders for my threadmaking and dun wanna drop errything and go make a coupla smalls. [10:59]
diana_coman: aha, guess I'll just sell you one stack of boulders on the spot anyway, and if anyone still cares to bid on that one, will fulfil that too, not a big problem either way [11:00]
mircea_popescu: cool then. [11:01]
mircea_popescu: btw alikim how much did electron pay you for the boulders you sold him ? [11:01]
diana_coman: it will take a while to take them out though, I'm on it [11:01]
alikim: 1 copper per [11:01]
mircea_popescu: i ended up buying them back from him and the asshole charged me 2 copper each. i'd have just as well paid you those 2 coppers per [11:01]
mircea_popescu: kk diana_coman [11:01]
alikim: the quality of the stuff I find dropped from 4 to 1 and now the robot pays me zero [11:02]
mircea_popescu: o.O [11:03]
mircea_popescu: that's pretty steep [11:03]
alikim: it was q4 then it dropped to 3 , 2 and now the quality is 1, I've no idea why [11:03]
alikim: maybe the q of my bits degrade with time? [11:03]
mircea_popescu: ohohohoh [11:04]
mircea_popescu: the bits i gave you originally were q+200 [11:04]
mircea_popescu: if you kept that stack and added to it little bits q 11 from keys [11:04]
mircea_popescu: it prolly kept dropping and so yes. [11:04]
alikim: how much are those? [11:04]
mircea_popescu: the low q bits maybe 50 or so. the high q ones 1-200, not really priced yet. [11:05]
mircea_popescu: anyway, it makes no difference to me, i'll buy q 1 for money, unlike teh bot. [11:05]
alikim: I need high q ones otherwise all I find costs zero [11:06]
mircea_popescu: ya but the problem is, high q bits can be used by higher skilled miners to find high q rare and valuable stuff, like say wooly mushroom. that's q 780 base. if you get it q 100 instead of q 200, that's prolly over 1k more profit. [11:07]
mircea_popescu: anyway, you got moneyz ? [11:07]
diana_coman: fwiw it's probably by far better to get yourself the building skill and at least increase the q that way as you find stuff; but feel free to ignore, of course [11:08]
mircea_popescu: yeah i was thinking, it wouldn't be too wise to pump money into skilling if he's basically only doing half of it. [11:08]
alikim: I have 75 copper, I need to buy one high q bit and spend it on something valuable so I can buy another bit [11:09]
mircea_popescu: eh, on that sort of budget, the best strategy is : go barehand mining, without any bits. then store the enums and keys you get. [11:10]
diana_coman: he might actually get more on the bits than on the resources he finds o.o [11:10]
alikim: what for? [11:10]
mircea_popescu: after a few hours the keys turn into little bits of nothing, at which point you have the option to either mine and sell the products or keep doing it [11:10]
diana_coman: I think danielpbarron said he'd buy bits? [11:10]
diana_coman: I mean: 11q bits [11:11]
mircea_popescu: most people'd buy bits i think, as well as your product if you decide to mine. [11:11]
alikim: I think my bits cost 1 copper [11:11]
mircea_popescu: but it's kind-of a waste to build claims before you built a book. [11:11]
mircea_popescu: alikim yeah but players oft pay premiums, and many times significant. [11:11]
alikim: ok, so how much is a high q bit? [11:12]
mircea_popescu: the high q ones 1-200, not really priced yet. < [11:12]
alikim: but you can sell them right? [11:13]
mircea_popescu: well i got a bunch from my bouquinism yeah [11:13]
alikim: so for how much you would sell them? [11:13]
mircea_popescu: you can have 100 for 100ea, as a one time sorta deal seeing how you're new and all. [11:13]
mircea_popescu: but mind that employing resources uneconomically is not a viable long term strategy. [11:14]
alikim: what "building a claim" or "building a book" means? [11:15]
mircea_popescu: o im sorry, i meant buying the book. there's a book which teaches you the skill called "building" [11:19]
mircea_popescu: then you get experience in that, and a higher q output. [11:19]
mircea_popescu: and building a claim is when you put ingredients in the stick and click the puzzle button [11:19]
alikim: ah kk thanks [11:20]
alikim: I'll buy one high q bit as sson as I have 100 copper [11:21]
mircea_popescu: incidentally, how much can you carry ? [11:23]
alikim: 471 [11:27]
mircea_popescu: ah, nb. still more than mine or diana for that matter. [11:27]
mircea_popescu: the reason i ask alikim is because http://logs.minigame.bz/2016-04-03.log.html#t16:18:59 [11:28]
lobbesbot: Title: #Eulora log for Sunday, 2016-04-03 (at logs.minigame.bz) [11:28]
mircea_popescu: yesterday a guy made 50k to move a bundle five minutes. [11:28]
mircea_popescu: diana_coman still digging up that rock ? lol. [11:29]
alikim: how long locked claims last? [11:29]
mircea_popescu: locked should last for very long. many months. [11:29]
mircea_popescu: but also depends on value. [11:29]
diana_coman: yeah, boulders are such a pain for a puny char like foxy that she should prolly charge more on these grounds alone, lol [11:30]
mircea_popescu: lol [11:30]
mircea_popescu: or sell them before storing. [11:30]
mircea_popescu: how much you got so far ? [11:30]
diana_coman: nearly there, 300 more to take out [11:30]
mircea_popescu: a ok i wait then [11:30]
mircea_popescu: o wow. it just occured to me... i wonder if it'd be a good idea to have him click an abc for me. [11:31]
mircea_popescu: would anyone be interested in very low q considerations ? [11:32]
diana_coman: heh, that's one job I have for gax [11:32]
mircea_popescu: hmmmmmm. [11:32]
diana_coman: I think I am, esp if they are significantly less expensive than high q ones [11:32]
mircea_popescu: well proportionally they would be - dunno about significantly. [11:32]
mircea_popescu: ima have to meditate on this. [11:32]
mircea_popescu: danke! [11:32]
diana_coman: enjoy! [11:33]
diana_coman: and since you were asking: I sold you bods q288 [11:34]
mircea_popescu: so riddle me this : is it better to have 10 q 1 JGC or one but q 10 ? [11:34]
diana_coman: what is jgc? [11:34]
mircea_popescu: the q 1 ones will fuck up your output. but so what etc. [11:34]
mircea_popescu: journeyman gumboist consideration [11:34]
diana_coman: to my mind it depends on what are you after [11:34]
mircea_popescu: well you want bps neh ? [11:35]
mircea_popescu: see the thing is... low q cons is good because you use high q bundle, right ? and STILL get many bps [11:35]
diana_coman: if it's loot (and quantity) than it's actually better to have it lower (assuming you can get high q bundle); I suspect though that there are some thresholds really [11:35]
mircea_popescu: so alikim if you're gonna quit don't quit the next few days... it's quite possible ima end up wanting you to do some apprentice crafter work for me! and it pays well. [11:35]
diana_coman: actually yeah, the carry-man thing should pay alikim some nice money [11:37]
diana_coman: assuming that there is a market for it, obviously [11:37]
alikim: I'm not really looking for a job [11:38]
diana_coman: alikim, you mean you would turn down an offer to carry one bundle and get paid 50k for it? [11:38]
diana_coman: as a one off thing even? [11:38]
diana_coman: your choice, of course, but why exactly? [11:38]
mircea_popescu: lol ok, but the thing is, eulora doesn't have "quests" in the sense of machined-AI "fetch me five rat tails". in eulora, the quests are player-driven. [11:39]
mircea_popescu: tho i guess plenty of players play mmorpgs without questing even. [11:39]
alikim: one time offer maybe not but otherwise I want to do what I want to do here [11:39]
diana_coman: I think quests are a sort of guidance initially or that's how I always saw them [11:40]
mircea_popescu: i dunno... maybe. [11:40]
diana_coman: oh, no worries about that alikim , it's truly a free world here, albeit a rather unforgiving one perhaps [11:40]
mircea_popescu: i mixed my fucking sg darn. [11:40]
diana_coman: sucks, I don't even have more high q sg right now [11:41]
mircea_popescu: luckily i didn't have much, so 212. will live. [11:41]
diana_coman: iirc Dragon's Tale had some quest which was basically along the lines "find another player who would buy you a drink" [11:42]
diana_coman: so in that sense eulora could have a quest: find another player to give you a job, lol [11:43]
alikim: in dt you used to make money [11:43]
diana_coman: alikim, I AM making money in eulora right now, see above [11:43]
alikim: I made thousands of 32261 [11:43]
alikim: in dt [11:44]
alikim: here I'm not sure what you call "money" [11:44]
mircea_popescu: coppers ? [11:45]
alikim: which in 32269 how much? [11:46]
mircea_popescu: one copper = one satoshi = almost nothing. [11:46]
alikim: cents? [11:46]
mircea_popescu: depends how exactly you calculate/value things, but i'd say on a conservative-reasonable scheme my char clears about 1mn/day, give or take. [11:46]
alikim: let's say if somebody here offered a job that could at least buy me a beer I'd consider [11:47]
mircea_popescu: over a year that'd meet your definition of thousands of 32279 i guess, but then again it comes at the cost of significant investment. [11:48]
alikim: otherwise I might as well pick herbs in dt and [11:48]
mircea_popescu: well, a large part of the appeal is that there's so much to figure out. people generally don't have answers for even the simplest questions. [11:48]
diana_coman: it sounds to me that alikim wants to find money, not answers [11:49]
mircea_popescu: i tried dragon's tale early on, maybe 2012 it was, and iirc i even made 100 or so btc profit, which would be fabulous. [11:49]
mircea_popescu: but it only held my attention for 3-4 days, because well... kinda obvious what's going on. [11:49]
mircea_popescu: then again that's just me. [11:49]
diana_coman: I found it so utterly boring that I really did not bother with it more than a few days [11:50]
mircea_popescu: did you martingale the coconut trees ? [11:50]
alikim: I seriously doubt you figured out all games there in 3-4 days especially skilled ones [11:50]
mircea_popescu: alikim me and my mentor won the "run over island" thing, that count ? [11:50]
alikim: no [11:50]
mircea_popescu: also did ok planting, but too click-intensive for my tastes. [11:51]
mircea_popescu: iirc that yielded a 115\%ish return, or somesuch. [11:51]
alikim: I didn't play any lottery like games in dt only skilled games [11:51]
alikim: but it took a long while to crack them [11:51]
mircea_popescu: were these added later maybe ? or describe one, or something. [11:52]
alikim: well mother dragon was by far the most profitable kill di figured it out and killed it, otherwise towers, pigs, dragon scales - extremely hard to crack and I was the only one who did it, maybe wells under certain conditions, rainyfalls, mines... [11:57]
alikim: that was the case where your knowledge brings you thousands of 32315, so I don't mind "finding answers" if they are profitable, like I don't need a microscope to see profit profitable [11:58]
mircea_popescu: aha. [12:01]
mircea_popescu: eulora doesn't subscribe to this style of problem, let's call it closed form. it's a lot more open. [12:01]
mircea_popescu: sorta "define your own problem". [12:01]
alikim: what you talking about? [12:02]
diana_coman: I suppose the s.mg statements might be an interesting read for alikim re "is there money to win in this thing?" [12:03]
mircea_popescu: alikim there is no "figure out how to kill dragon queen" as such. none of that "teppy challenges everyone to brain-to-brain single combat" sort of thing. [12:06]
danielpbarron: alikim, the job i was offering you isn't like a thing you are bound to; more like, do it for as long as long as you feel like [12:12]
alikim: I have 90 B and 98 RR q1 for sale [13:19]
lobbesbot: News from eulora: MiniGame (S.MG), March 2016 Statement <http://trilema.com/2016/minigame-smg-march-2016-statement/> [13:21]
mircea_popescu: (90 * 59 + 98 * 67 ) * 0.01 * 1.15 = 136.574, say 137 alikim [13:50]
alikim: I found some more need to extract [13:52]
mircea_popescu: can fill in the numbers in formula by yourself, so [13:54]
alikim: I'm at the storage [14:05]
alikim: can you come over? [14:08]
mircea_popescu: i am at the storage already [14:12]
alikim: I won't be able to move with stones so I need to be right at the storage [14:13]
mircea_popescu: you're uysing the wrong one tho [14:16]
mircea_popescu: come by heina's. [14:16]
alikim: it says you do not respond [14:21]
mircea_popescu: darn please try again alikim [14:23]
mircea_popescu: there we go [14:23]
mircea_popescu: o nice. [14:23]
mircea_popescu: (186 * 58 + 184 * 67)*.01 * 1.15 = 265.834 [14:24]
mircea_popescu: cheers. [14:24]
mircea_popescu: hm. listen, for future, put all things in same trade. [14:25]
mircea_popescu: is this the last thing for today ? [14:25]
alikim: I can't put more than 36 stones they are too heavy [14:26]
mircea_popescu: of course you can :) [14:26]
alikim: how? [14:26]
mircea_popescu: drop them on the ground, get another set, drop them again, then pick the whole thing together [14:26]
mircea_popescu: im going to make you a craft table later today to simplify this process [14:26]
mircea_popescu: ~everyone carries around one. [14:26]
alikim: can you move a bit closer please I can't trade you [14:28]
mircea_popescu: i weigh 45k ;/ [14:29]
mircea_popescu: i can't move for the life of me. [14:29]
alikim: if I pick up all boulders I don't have an option to trade you [14:31]
mircea_popescu: pick them after you ask me to trade [14:31]
mircea_popescu: 93 * 59 * .01 * 1.15 = 63.1005 [14:32]
mircea_popescu: cheers. [14:32]
alikim: thanks, can I buy 2 high q bits? [14:32]
mircea_popescu: oh. [14:33]
mircea_popescu: well not now cuz i can't get them out of bank until im less heavy, and it's a pain to move the stuff. [14:33]
mircea_popescu: ima get them out for the next time we meet [14:33]
mircea_popescu: how about that. [14:33]
alikim: kk no probs [14:33]
alikim: cheers [14:33]
