January 17th, 2019 by Diana Coman
requiemzz: im having issues installing the game on linux its failing after running "make" [06:10]
diana_coman: requiemzz, be a bit more precise : what steps have you followed and what is the error it gives? [06:19]
diana_coman: use http://p.bvulpes.com/ to paste the error at least [06:19]
requiemzz: following http://www.eulorum.org/Ubuntu [06:20]
diana_coman: what step are you at? [06:20]
requiemzz: http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/QvdQb/?raw=true [06:21]
requiemzz: step 5 [06:21]
requiemzz: make [06:21]
diana_coman: for one thing, gcc 4.9 is latest on which it will likely work [06:22]
requiemzz: ok ive changed to 5 [06:22]
diana_coman: going above 5 is likely to end up in all sorts of trouble [06:22]
requiemzz: i was at 7 then went to 5 [06:22]
requiemzz: ill try 4 [06:22]
requiemzz: 4.9 [06:22]
diana_coman: k, let me know how it goes [06:22]
diana_coman: other than that: your path looks dubious - is "dev" your user and did you actually put cal3d in your home dir directly? [06:24]
requiemzz: i did [06:25]
diana_coman: ok [06:25]
requiemzz: it says there is no 4.9 package but maybe im not referecing it correctly [06:26]
diana_coman: what ubuntu version are you running? [06:26]
requiemzz: sudo apt-get install gcc-4.9 g++-4.9 [06:26]
diana_coman: it might well be that newest repos think the world started with 5 or something [06:26]
requiemzz: ubuntu 18.04 [06:26]
diana_coman: possibly g++-4.8? [06:27]
diana_coman: or otherwise you can try repo for xenial or whatever earlier ubuntu was called [06:28]
requiemzz: new message [06:35]
requiemzz: http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/0Nrve/?raw=true [06:35]
requiemzz: im running gcc 4.8.5 [06:36]
diana_coman: did all previous steps (i.e. 1-4 and then autoreconf and ./configure at 5) succeed? [06:37]
diana_coman: also: now your path is..different so how come ? [06:38]
diana_coman: when you specify the prefix for configure did you give the actual path to cal3d on your system? [06:39]
diana_coman: requiemzz, where are you stuck? [07:37]
mircea_popescu: hey requiemzz [09:40]
mircea_popescu: diana_coman we evidently have to static this, "works on linux" is as much a fantasy as "works on windows" [09:41]
mircea_popescu: it's not possible for him to run 10.04 or w/e it was when we compiled it, they've glued broken glass everywhere, it's an expert's weekend to get a year+ old version going anymore. [09:42]
mircea_popescu: requiemzz it is entirely possible your configure failed because bad paths or something equally silly. do this : [09:43]
mircea_popescu: autoreconf --install --force >> requiemzz_errors.txt [09:43]
mircea_popescu: ./configure --prefix=/home/ossa/dev/cal3d >> requiemzz_errors.txt [09:44]
mircea_popescu: make >> requiemzz_errors.txt [09:44]
mircea_popescu: then link that requiemzz_errors.txt [09:44]
diana_coman: mircea_popescu, static linking cal3d and cs is another huge can of worms [10:21]
diana_coman: and no, he doesn't (at least not yet) need to run 10.04 [10:21]
diana_coman: but anyway, the road there afaik is via cuntoo [10:21]
mircea_popescu: prolly, yeah. [12:22]
mircea_popescu: lessee what he says when wakes up, atm im almost convinced its pathfuckery. [12:23]
requiemzz: sorry was at work [19:18]
requiemzz: how should i link the errors [19:20]
mircea_popescu: put the file in the same http://p.bvulpes.com/p [19:28]
