#eulora Logs for 03 Sep 2017

September 3rd, 2017 by Diana Coman
diana_coman: mircea_popescu, no idea really - every new piece in there sort of added on the suspicion that it's gcc -cs mismatch; ftr I haven't even installed anywhere any gcc 7 so no idea what "improvements" fester there [02:50]
mircea_popescu: looks like re-defined ints. [02:51]
lobbesbot: A#143 O=1.43mn HB=1.431mn E=09-04 16:51:26 (33h7) >>> 9960 CFT q 57 [03:44]

rinzler: Hey danielpbarron looks like I got most things working, thanks to your guide. Just some things that I had to deal with is not knowing how to properly work with Lilo, so I'll be switching to grub and back just to use all my os. Wifi was a matter of downloading some firmwares, so not too bad. However, Eulora - the most important part - fails to launch due to what appears to be a graphics error. [15:04]
lobbesbot: Post from eulora2: Kim Kardashian Cameleo <http://trilema.com/2017/kim-kardashian-cameleo/> [15:43]

diana_coman: eulora2? [15:52]
lobbes: Heh. Had to add http://trilema.com/category/trolloludens/ as eulora-related posts sometimes appear in that feed. [16:17]
lobbes: Note to self: make better labels for rss-o-matic [16:18]
diana_coman: ah, s.mg and trolloludens; makes sense, yes [16:18]
lobbesbot: A#143 O=1.43mn HB=1.431mn E=09-04 16:51:26 (20h7) >>> 9960 CFT q 57 [16:44]

danielpbarron: rinzler_, do you have a blog / could you post something about how to do wifi on a gentoo made from my guide? [16:54]
danielpbarron: rinzler_, and what graphics card do you have? [16:55]
rinzler: danielpbarron, http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/MU0sr/?raw=true [17:41]
rinzler: also it seems to be an issue with crystalspace plugins during launch. I have NVIDIA gt 650m so shouldnt be a problem [17:43]
lobbesbot: A#143 O=1.43mn HB=1.431mn E=09-04 16:51:26 (19h7) >>> 9960 CFT q 57 [17:44]
lobbesbot: --- end of auction list, 1.431mn total bids --- [17:44]
rinzler: err, switch step 2 and 3 actually [17:45]
danielpbarron: rinzler, what's the issue? [17:50]
rinzler: ignore that. http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/Xenv1/?raw=true to be clear. I'll have to switch back to gentoo real quick and copy the error [17:51]
rinzler: Hey danielpbarron , how exactly does wotspace work? [18:05]
danielpbarron: wotpaste? [18:05]
rinzler: Yeah that [18:05]
danielpbarron: it's a republican paste service [18:06]
danielpbarron: you send text to it and get a url to share with others [18:06]
rinzler: Right, so when I did cat euclient.log I didn't get a specific link, just wotpaste.cascadianhacker.com [18:07]
danielpbarron: what exactly did you type? [18:11]
rinzler: cat euclient.log ~/wotpaste [18:12]
danielpbarron: what does cat ~/wotpaste return? [18:13]
rinzler: The long echo return that's on your guide. [18:14]
rinzler: Ah I know the reason [18:15]
danielpbarron: what is the reason? [18:16]
rinzler: The link I sent regarding the steps I took to get my wireless working, i eluded to a problem around step 3, hence the maybe optional step 4, where I have to perform dhcpcd on my wireless interface to get it running [18:18]
rinzler: I'm a noob at this, so maybe you can figure it out. [18:18]
danielpbarron: is your wifi actually working? [18:19]
rinzler: Yes, but not after rebooting [18:19]
danielpbarron: ah [18:19]
rinzler: http://wotpaste.cascadianhacker.com/pastes/jldr4/?raw=true [18:20]
danielpbarron: what happens if you log in as root or something and type startx [18:23]
rinzler: Connection refused [18:24]
danielpbarron: you let the NVIDIA driver install thingy make a new config file for X ? [18:25]
rinzler: Also says module nvidia not found in directory /lib/modules/4.1.35-gentoo [18:26]
rinzler: I believe so [18:26]
danielpbarron: oh oh i know, duh [18:26]
danielpbarron: you need to run that again since you re-did your kernel modules for the wifi [18:26]
danielpbarron: you don't need it to redo the X config again though [18:27]
mircea_popescu: fuck i mislabeled this latest piece. sorry, fixing. [18:27]
rinzler: Ah ok [18:27]
mircea_popescu: rinzler i was talking to lobbes re http://logs.minigame.bz/2017-09-03.log.html#t20:17:43 [18:28]
lobbesbot: Logged on 2017-09-03 20:17:43: <lobbes> Heh. Had to add http://trilema.com/category/trolloludens/ as eulora-related posts sometimes appear in that feed. [18:28]
rinzler: danielpbarron: that fixed part of it. New error though - no screens found (EE) [18:31]
mircea_popescu: that'd be xorg [18:32]
rinzler: Xorg? [18:32]
danielpbarron: rinzler, you are doing this from a terminal on the machine iteself, ie not through ssh ? [18:32]
rinzler: Yes, using terminal [18:32]
mircea_popescu: x is the graphics engine in most linuxen. [18:32]
rinzler: Oh I should mention that I don't have a desktop environment [18:33]
danielpbarron: you shouldn't if you followed my guide [18:33]
danielpbarron: doesn't have a window manager either [18:34]
danielpbarron: but those wouldn't help here anyway if startx won't even work [18:34]
rinzler: Removing the xorg.conf appears to work for some [18:39]
danielpbarron: you will need the file [18:41]
danielpbarron: you want the one NVIDIA creates [18:42]
danielpbarron: this might be a kernel thing too, you might have turned back on some stuff that disrupts the NVIDIA driver [18:43]
danielpbarron: when you recompiled for wifi [18:44]
lobbesbot: A#143 O=1.43mn HB=1.431mn E=09-04 16:51:26 (18h7) >>> 9960 CFT q 57 [18:44]
lobbesbot: --- end of auction list, 1.431mn total bids --- [18:44]
danielpbarron: the kernel config i provided in the guide had these things turned off, but maybe you didn't use this config on the recompile [18:46]
rinzler: It says CONFIG_FB_NVIDIA is not set [18:51]
danielpbarron: type: cat /etc/portage/make.conf wotpaste [19:02]
danielpbarron: and to make that work, type: cp /root/files/wotpaste /usr/bin/wotpaste ; chmod +x /usr/bin/wotpaste [19:05]
rinzler: http://wotpaste.cascadianhacker.com/pastes/gs1y3/?raw=true [19:05]
danielpbarron: does your kernel have DRM_NOUVEAU set ? [19:12]
rinzler: Uh how would I check for that? [19:13]
danielpbarron: how did you check for CONFIG_FB_NVIDIA ? [19:15]
rinzler: Oh got it [19:15]
rinzler: That doesn't appear in the .config, only CONFIG_DRM which is not set [19:17]
rinzler: "/usr/src/linux/.config" is where I looked [19:18]
danielpbarron: it's possible whatever you did with the wifi didn't use that file [19:19]
rinzler: Hm well I'll try it again and see what happens [19:22]
rinzler: To use it, all I have to do is run it on the Linux folder, right? [19:23]
rinzler: Well just did it and nothing changed [19:30]
danielpbarron: did you try to run startx or eulora before you tried the wifi? [19:31]
rinzler: As soon as I got gentoo working I tried eulora and it didn't work. [19:32]
rinzler: Should I be mounting the boot before each kernel update? [19:33]
danielpbarron: check that /boot is not currently mounted, and then type ls /boot/ [19:33]
rinzler: It just has the gentoo vmlinuz config and map now [19:37]
danielpbarron: it should be empty when not mounted [19:37]
danielpbarron: (which means yes, you need to mount it before recompiling) [19:38]
rinzler: Those are probably leftovers from me trying to get triple boot to work. I had to make my gentoo partition as the boot [19:38]
danielpbarron: what does that mean? [19:38]
danielpbarron: your /boot is not a partition but just part of your root? [19:38]
rinzler: Yes [19:39]
danielpbarron: ah then no you don't need to mount boot [19:39]
rinzler: http://wotpaste.cascadianhacker.com/pastes/h7atw/?raw=true [19:42]
rinzler: Is the result from xorg.0.log [19:43]
lobbesbot: A#143 O=1.43mn HB=1.431mn E=09-04 16:51:26 (17h7) >>> 9960 CFT q 57 [19:44]
