lobbesbot: AUCTION # 48 has ENDED: 1k PPB q 5 SOLD to mircea_popescu for 250k coppers. Attn: danielpbarron [13:08]
mircea_popescu: http://btcbase.org/log/2017-03-18#1629015 << odds are it couldn't be re-done in a current fab, the vast majority of current fab constraints go towards avoiding echos and other self-crits the design may impose upon itself. as the engineers at the time didn't labour under the same constraints, and they're cutting out way more than 99\% of the theoretical design space, the odds their work product would work in 14nm process are zer [14:57]
mircea_popescu: o for any item larger than a few transistors' worth. [14:57]
mircea_popescu: that said, it could of course be re-done, by people who understand completely what it did. but a lot more work than "print me these old family films on modern paper". [14:58]
diana_coman: lol, wrong chan mircea_popescu ? [15:31]
mircea_popescu: doh oops [15:32]
mircea_popescu: Birdman dude, AGAIN mining in the fucking town ? wtf is wrong with you, there's 1mn coords and you're like in love with these 20. [17:41]
Birdman: sorry sorry was out the door last night just started it where i was standin [19:15]
mircea_popescu: doh. [19:16]
Birdman: oh i see whatcha mean, he moved pretty close to town [19:17]
Birdman: my bad [19:17]
mircea_popescu: eventually the claims will be wiped properly and only communicated when people are in range. but for now you end up spamming everyone with a shitton of crap. go mine at a distance, be happy. [19:18]
Birdman: yes [19:18]
Birdman: danielpbarron can i come pick up those cds [19:22]
Birdman: using my min threads (3) instead of max (11) on basics seems to give similar results [21:30]
Birdman: i think i lose a bunch maxing them out [21:30]
Birdman: also thats on barehand claims [21:31]
mircea_popescu: good to know [21:34]
Birdman: yeah, so there could just be some sort of threshold for amount of value to put into claims before the results narrow exponentially, per value of the specific claim or something, the difference between q100 input and q200 input may be much greater than the difference between q2000 and q3000 [21:43]
Birdman: i am using q200 threads which is alot of value i guess [21:44]
Birdman: and if that is the case, being a great gatherer would be just as important for mining as being a great builder, what good is the ability to make valueable bundles if they're lost on crappy claims [21:49]
mircea_popescu: and you're getting ~same from 3 q200 as from 11 q200 ? [21:53]
Birdman: yeah [21:53]
mircea_popescu: ie 1k or 5k put in, same what , 1k out ? [21:53]
Birdman: as similar as it gets really [21:53]
Birdman: im averaging a good 1500 from basic smalls [21:53]
Birdman: and thats with min and max threads [21:54]
Birdman: the only difference i really see is i get more quantity without the heavy over craft [21:54]
mircea_popescu: interesting. [21:54]
mircea_popescu: same q too ? [21:54]
Birdman: when i pump em full of threads i can get q500 [21:54]
Birdman: nah [21:54]
Birdman: more lower quality from the min, less higher quality from the max [21:55]
Birdman: but most regularly it meets in the middle for some ~q150 stuff [21:55]
Birdman: this is also only over a good 20 claims or so [21:55]
mircea_popescu: aha [21:57]
