#eulora Logs for 10 Jun 2015

June 10th, 2015 by Diana Coman
mircea_popescu: jurov can you get eulorum to put a subdomain pointing at that ? [00:53]
chetty: <ben_vulpes> <chetty> ben_vulpes, you can run it in dbg mode see what output you get << what are the incantations for debug mode?// gdb euclient [02:47]
jurov: eulorum is not my site [06:57]
chetty: good morning jurov [06:57]
jurov: morning. looks like mike_c hosts it [06:58]
chetty: yeah MP can't seem to keep that straight [06:59]
jurov: so, what's new? will the >=ordinary claims be fixed or i'd better forget them? [07:02]
chetty: hmm well I am not sure what you mean by fixed? I think I am going to be needing a bug report system here to keep track of things [07:03]
jurov: i made only two flotsams yest evening. using two ordinary flotsam claims [07:04]
jurov: they are near where i'm standing atm [07:04]
jurov: need more information? or try another one for you to see? [07:05]
jurov: and by fixed i mean, when trying another ordinary claim, will get better results [07:06]
chetty: ah well I hadnt heard about that, and yes your resutls from an ordinary should be a lot better, on my list to look at now [07:07]
chetty: wouldnt hurt to hold on to a couple of those claims :) [07:08]
jurov: yea, i have more. but with a reset impending, they'll need to be used soon [07:10]
chetty: reset? I guess I am out of loop on some stuffs here [07:21]
jurov: [Mo June 8 2015] [19:31:03] <mircea_popescu> and also, an important announcement : the fix to limit claims to one single use is going in later today. at some point after that, extant claims & their keys are getting wiped. [07:29]
jurov: (notice the last part) [07:33]
chetty: ahh ok, I am not sure what hisplan is exactly but we do seem to have an issue with a littered landscape that will need some clean up. [07:37]
jurov: just increase the distance where vegetation is visible. problem solved :D [07:38]
jurov: i enlarged my window to 1600x1200 and it's even more noticeable how it appears and disappears [07:40]
jurov: but i see this could cause framerate to drop quickly...prolly need 3d designer to create lower-polygon versions [07:42]
chetty: well the grass is about as low as it can get, the stupid looking tree could be better [07:51]
jurov: i meant , lower polygon would be used after some distance [07:57]
chetty: ahh well thats not really an art issue, thats a LOD thing [08:12]
chetty: if you want to play with the settings for that I can point you to the file, its all actually done in the client [08:18]
jurov: ok, will look for it. you said it is on server, earlier [08:19]
jurov: btw, i have pushed my logging patches to github: https://github.com/Chettie/Eulora-client [08:21]
jurov: and have makeshift python parser for it... but looks like getting useful info (such as, requisites tree for some stuff) is np-hard problem :D [08:22]
thestringpuller: http://i.ytimg.com/vi/eEsUdOS9lpM/maxresdefault.jpg << PC's are cool cause you can really mess with the graphical settings pushing things to "Ultra" or whatever. I like how it tells you how much resources you'll be using in relation to the settings too. [10:30]
thestringpuller: re jurov [10:30]
chetty: howdy joecool [12:44]
joecool: chetty: hello [12:53]
chetty: are you playing Eulora? [12:57]
joecool: chetty: not yet, but i am going to check it out later this week when i have some more free time [12:58]
chetty: ahh nice ;) [12:59]
lobbes: mircea_popescu: I don't have it installed yet, but may I have a user/pass in advance (just in case I tinker with it at some odd hours)? [16:02]
mircea_popescu: yes. [16:03]
mircea_popescu: lobbes http://dpaste.com/16Z3ZA1 [16:06]
chetty: speaking of which server restart in 5 [16:07]
lobbes: odd, keep getting "gpg: decrypt_message failed: Unexpected error" [16:10]
lobbes: ah duh, nvm [16:14]
chetty: back up [16:16]
lobbes: mircea_popescu, I think you actually pasted my own pubkey in that dpaste, rather than the encrypted message ;/ [16:29]
mircea_popescu: your own pubkey is longer than that. [16:30]
lobbes: fair enough, though it still starts with 'BEGIN PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK' as opposed to 'BEGIN PGP MESSAGE' [17:02]
lobbes: perhaps I'm missing something here [17:03]
mircea_popescu: ugh. [17:59]
mircea_popescu: one sec [17:59]
mircea_popescu: lobbes http://dpaste.com/1SPKPXB << right one [18:00]
mircea_popescu: totally my fault, pasted wrong buffer. [18:00]
lobbes: mircea_popescu: obtained! ty [18:04]
mircea_popescu: in other news, the post-release quashed bug count just went into three digits [18:04]
mircea_popescu: in house it took about 5 weeks for the same result. [18:04]
mircea_popescu: (game's been out all of 10 days) [18:05]
mircea_popescu: better yet, the server actually survived up an entire night last night! (first time ever). [18:06]
mircea_popescu: and, on the good news front - performance is certainly not an issue. even with a dozen people on, the various measured loads ranked as negligible. [18:06]
mike_c: does sound work for most people? [19:32]
mircea_popescu: greyhawk should have some speech and otherewise there's some beeps when you click [19:37]
mike_c: anybody else playing on windows? It's a weird kind of flaky. 3 out of 4 times it crashes on launch, but if it loads it's stable. [20:16]
mircea_popescu: about half the playerbase is on windows actually o.O [20:17]
mike_c: it's fine because it stays up, but who knows why loading is so flaky.. crashes in crystalspace a lot. [20:17]
mircea_popescu: i certainly have nfi. curious if jurov ever figures it out, but won't be holding mah breath. [20:18]
mircea_popescu: windows, after all. and who the fuck ever heard of such nonsense, "it works fine. sometimes." [20:18]
mike_c: yeah.. maybe some kind of race condition [20:18]
mircea_popescu: must be [20:19]
mircea_popescu: tho start-up race conditions suggest bugs in drivers/kernel/etc [20:19]
mike_c: hm. i don't doubt crystalspace has its share of issues [20:19]
mircea_popescu: same code compiled on unix system works tho [20:20]
mircea_popescu: cs is not imported as a binary blob [20:20]
mircea_popescu: actually... i think in windows it actually is huh [20:20]
mike_c: yeah [20:20]
mircea_popescu: aha. [20:21]
mircea_popescu: might be that. [20:21]
mircea_popescu: is actually amused that for once, the windows version of a mmorpg is the buggy one [20:21]
mike_c: crystalspace is trying to steal my euloracoins [20:21]
mircea_popescu: mike_c didja get to play any btw ? [20:22]
mike_c: what's the command to show your location? [20:22]
mircea_popescu: /pos [20:22]
mike_c: i'm in right now. played a bit, but got a little frustrated. jurov's (i think) guide on eulorum got me re-engaged. [20:22]
mircea_popescu: welcomes venting and rage just as much as anything else. [20:23]
mike_c: :) [20:23]
mike_c: a compass would be nice [20:23]
mircea_popescu: you don't have the skills yet to know what a compass is. [20:23]
mike_c: ah, that's a good answer [20:24]
mircea_popescu: gonna be a wide swath of npcs doing things of all sorts for one [20:24]
mircea_popescu: and a bunch of skills to support it. [20:24]
mircea_popescu: mike_c you ever played might and magic series ? blood and honor, mandate of heaven etc ? [20:25]
mike_c: i don't think so [20:26]
mircea_popescu: a ok. well a bit of that npc system, muchly expanded. [20:26]
mircea_popescu: you went around the town hiring people off the street, based on their skillset. [20:26]
mike_c: although i was a huge fan of legacy of the ancients for the commodore 64 [20:26]
mircea_popescu: i dun recall if i ever played that one. what was it with ? [20:26]
mike_c: and this reminds a bit of that, in that it seems I'll have to be writing a lot of shit down :) [20:27]
mike_c: rpg / dungeon crawler [20:27]
mircea_popescu: for sure, yet. [20:27]
mircea_popescu: later on you'll get npcs to do it fer ya :D [20:28]
mike_c: i seriously had books of graph paper with dungeons mapped out for that game [20:28]
mircea_popescu: http://i.imgur.com/ewy3A.jpg << something like that. [20:28]
mircea_popescu: http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/lets-play-mmvi-the-mandate-of-heaven.69958/ sauce [20:28]
mike_c: hah, that's awesome [20:28]
mike_c: that is interesting, a fee and a cut of earnings [20:29]
mircea_popescu: prolly will be fixed fees, but hooked into economy. [20:29]
mircea_popescu: player-controlled towns will largely depend on how many npcs can attract, [20:29]
mircea_popescu: which in some degree will be influenced by how much jobs pcs create [20:29]
mircea_popescu: etc etc [20:29]
mike_c: gonna have to figure out how to craft a boat and find some more land [20:30]
mircea_popescu: so you probably will get cheaper guys to handle your pack animals in shittier towns, but won't be able to find the best factors or w/e. [20:30]
mircea_popescu: (factor - guy who looks for rare coins in loot) [20:30]
mircea_popescu: lol [20:30]
mircea_popescu: so far most of tier 1 stuff was introduced. once game progresses to tier 2 there's gonna be at least one moar map. [20:31]
mike_c: cool [20:31]
mike_c: the pos is x y z ? [20:31]
mircea_popescu: yeah [20:31]
mike_c: gotta start a map here :) [20:31]
mircea_popescu: :)! [20:31]
mircea_popescu: this legacy thing looks pretty awesome [20:33]
mircea_popescu: tho i never played. amiga :D [20:34]
mike_c: yeah.. i sunk some serious hours into it. [20:34]
mircea_popescu: is it web-available ? [20:36]
mircea_popescu: http://playdosgamesonline.com/legacy-of-the-ancients.html < ? [20:37]
mike_c: i've never looked, but that looks like it :) [20:38]
mike_c: that music.. [20:38]
mircea_popescu: mike_c was The_Legend_of_Blacksilver any good ? [20:46]
mike_c: hah, i didn't catch that one. [20:47]
mike_c: didn't know there was a sequel [20:47]
mircea_popescu: haha made 30 golds in blackjack [21:08]
mike_c: grr.. [21:22]
mike_c: y is elevation? [21:22]
mike_c: elevation is the middle parameter in the pos it seems [21:22]
mike_c: there goes all those points :) [21:22]
mircea_popescu: yeh, y is height. [21:24]
mircea_popescu: not terribly interesting for players that can't fly. [21:24]
mike_c: cartography is dangerous bizness on this island.. [21:48]
mircea_popescu: lol you got ded ? [21:48]
mike_c: like 30 times. boundary with the water is tough to identify [21:49]
mircea_popescu: hehehe [21:53]
mircea_popescu: i think ima log in a little myself :D [21:54]
mike_c: i'll be at the glow ball every 5 minutes :) [21:54]
mircea_popescu: :D [21:55]
