#eulora Logs for 09 Jun 2015

June 9th, 2015 by Diana Coman
jurov: morning [05:09]
diana_coman: morning jurov [05:12]
jurov: looking at stored keys... and server bam [05:22]
diana_coman: making a patch for eulora for all kind of things looks more and more interesting [05:26]
diana_coman: I was looking at the merchant's stores, nothing special either [05:31]
diana_coman: not sure what caused the bam really [05:31]
jurov: better would be to add scripting to it. no recompiling every time [05:36]
diana_coman: yes [05:36]
chetty: it is having a problem with the kesy, I expect it happens when the lock it unlocks is gone, looking at it now [05:40]
diana_coman: and now the client crashed on run, wow [05:41]
chetty: awww [05:41]
diana_coman: it might still be that elusive thing although there was no open-gl issue this time otherwise, so not sure [05:42]
diana_coman: it ran now ok [05:42]
chetty: that crash at start thing is beyond me, it never happens when I run in debug [05:48]
chetty: anyway there is a definite isse with keys when the lock no longer exists [05:49]
chetty: I have a patch to install for the keys server restart in 5 [06:02]
chetty: this should help when looking thru keys too, will say (null) when the lock no longer exists [06:04]
diana_coman: chetty, any plans to add scripting to eulora (as jurov suggested) later on? [06:07]
chetty: I dont know if I will do it, but MP is perfectly happy for people to write and us bots [06:07]
jurov: i guess she's buried in bug reports up to neck... so that's up to us [06:07]
chetty: server restarted, hopefully key issue fixed [06:09]
diana_coman: I'm rather clueless at scripting unfortunately, did not have to use much until now [06:09]
chetty: there is a plan to allow crafting to proceed even if you are not online, queue up actions, but it is a way off [06:09]
diana_coman: I will try to look into it, but not sure how much I can do [06:10]
chetty: given the type of people playing I would be very surprised if someone doesnt start making bots [06:11]
diana_coman: they certainly seem...needed :))) [06:12]
diana_coman: I clearly feel the ...push towards that [06:12]
chetty: jurov I love the screen shot you used in that article, the fountain, the moon etc [06:53]
jurov: yes, the best shot i did [06:54]
jurov: coppers balance unchanged... has anyone figured the bag out yet? [07:12]
punkman: yeah I managed to use it once before it disappeared :P [07:21]
chetty: mine works :) [07:36]
jurov: "Unmounts the root partition. You must be suid root for this to work." orly [07:37]
chetty: hahahahah reading help files :P [07:38]
jurov: /emote does anything? [07:41]
jurov: lmao now my bezzlebag vanished, too [07:44]
jurov: tried /rotate 180 180 180 expecting something gonna fall out of it [07:44]
jurov: but it doesn't like such handling, i guess [07:45]
chetty: ok dear just moving around shouldntmake it dissappear, I'll check the db see if I cantell what happened [07:46]
jurov: oh i found it [07:46]
chetty: whew [07:46]
jurov: oinly bottom is sticking out of the ground [07:47]
chetty: hahaha [07:47]
jurov: rotated it back [07:47]
chetty: I guess you rotated it [07:47]
chetty: emotes dont do much since I dont have animations for them [07:47]
chetty: the code structure is all there just lacking in graphics [07:48]
jurov: out of ideas. /use Grundin's Magic Bag does nothing [07:55]
jurov: /cast coppers, too [07:55]
punkman: command is not listed in Help [07:58]
jurov: O.O [07:59]
chetty: you read Trilema? [07:59]
chetty: (MP dropped a clue in the article that announced the event) [08:00]
jurov: not very closely [08:01]
jurov: ok, got it [08:04]
chetty: :) [08:05]
jurov: i did read that... would never realize that is a clue [08:05]
chetty: well it wasnt supposed to be too easy, must have fun somewhere :) [08:06]
chetty: so lovely and quiet here today, general strike, no trains or buses - most business closed cause people can't get to work even it they wanted :) [08:17]
jurov: in bsas? [08:18]
mircea_popescu: hmm, zinodaur fellow came to anything ? [09:13]
jurov: looks like he silently left [09:19]
chetty: never said anything more that I saw [09:19]
mircea_popescu: haha i wonder if that means anything [09:20]
HeySteve: hi [10:30]
mircea_popescu: heya [10:30]
HeySteve: keen to try Eulora, have a problem with the installation though [10:31]
mircea_popescu: shoot. [10:31]
HeySteve: "program can't start because libcal3d-csvc10.dll is missing" [10:32]
mircea_popescu: are you on windows ? [10:32]
HeySteve: yes for gaming [10:33]
mircea_popescu: http://explo.yt/post/2015/06/05/Eulora-for-Windows << see step 2 [10:33]
chetty: cal3d is a required library for it [10:33]
mircea_popescu: i think it comes in the cs bundle as jurov has it there neh ? [10:34]
HeySteve: yes, followed that guide [10:34]
chetty: not sure, I know he had to back up and install it at least once [10:34]
mircea_popescu: hmm [10:34]
jurov: HeySteve: there was problem that cs-winlibs did not isntall MSVC support [10:35]
HeySteve: looking in the CrystalSpaceLibs/dlls folder I see that file is indeed missing [10:35]
jurov: with this result [10:35]
HeySteve: ah ha [10:35]
jurov: so either install it from start menu and if it's not there, reinstall cs-winlibs [10:35]
HeySteve: hmm ok, gets past finding the dll now but crashes on startup [10:39]
HeySteve: "psclient.exe has stopped working" [10:40]
chetty: who wants to bet that the cs-data files were not copied correctly? [10:40]
chetty: HeySteve, there is a folder cs-data that needs to get coppied into the cd/data dir, not so it makes a new folder but so that overwrites some files in there. For some reason most people miss that step [10:45]
HeySteve: so the contents of Eulora/cs/data need to be copied into Eulora/cs [10:48]
HeySteve: including the subfolders in cs/data? [10:49]
jurov: yes [10:58]
jurov: some files will get overwritten, that is ok [10:59]
jurov: but moment, in win32 it should be already done [10:59]
jurov: just re-run psclient, it should start on second or third try [10:59]
mircea_popescu: o.O [10:59]
mircea_popescu: what's causing that btw, any idea ? [10:59]
chetty: there are 2 folders there, config-plugins and shader-old, they should be used to overwrite thos folders in the main cs/data [11:00]
jurov: yest i found there's a cs fix in the upstream [11:00]
jurov: not tried it yet [11:00]
chetty: some of the newer versions of cs have different issues, thats why I settled on this one [11:01]
HeySteve: ah right, here we go. ran it again as you said, jurov, working now [11:02]
mircea_popescu: the thing being, that since we've settled on a specific one, it should also be probably distributed with the client [11:02]
jurov: it is distributed [11:02]
HeySteve: may I have a login account please, mircea_popescu [11:02]
jurov: the cs-winlibs is needed due only to its dependencies [11:03]
mircea_popescu: aha a second [11:03]
jurov: chetty just ever ran it out from the source so the actual deployment is not possible and there was no time to fix it [11:04]
chetty: yeah we will get better at this, set up a cs pckg to go with as time goes by [11:06]
mircea_popescu: HeySteve http://dpaste.com/0ZWWHMV [11:06]
HeySteve: thanks [11:06]
mircea_popescu: chetty yeah. because otherwise they can just pull a gavin on us and leave us without a playable game. [11:07]
HeySteve: mircea_popescu, it's just my user name and the pass you sent? getting incorrect pass / user error [11:10]
chetty: well thats a new one [11:10]
jurov: so.. i've got 2 line patch to dump recipes contents to console for further processing.. anyone want? [11:15]
jurov: perhaps good time to set up collaboration [11:16]
jurov: we can just use github, i uploaded client 0.1.0 there [11:16]
chetty: nice going jurov [11:17]
mircea_popescu: HeySteve yes it is ? [11:18]
mircea_popescu: HeySteve oh i see the problem. please try now [11:19]
HeySteve: nope, same problem [11:24]
mircea_popescu: what the... hm. [11:24]
mircea_popescu: HeySteve and now ? [11:25]
HeySteve: success! [11:26]
mircea_popescu: :) [11:28]
jurov: Crude Stinky Wineskin recipe is empty [11:54]
mircea_popescu: btw, look at the flour one ? i think i fixed it. [11:56]
jurov: that was diana's . i have mess in Small Shiny Rock marker [11:57]
mircea_popescu: erryone has that, but it works oddly enoguh [11:58]
mircea_popescu: juyst put 7 bits in click puzzle button [11:58]
mircea_popescu: the display issue is getting fixed once someone figures out wtf causes it [11:58]
mircea_popescu: jurov plox see if recipe fixed on your nextreload. [11:59]
jurov: kk [11:59]
mod6: I cant really capture a screen shot of it, it happens too fast; however, when I purchase "One Coarse Frangible Thread" it then dumps me over to the Basic Harvistables screen, eventhough "Ingredients I" is still selected on the left. [12:12]
mod6: This is repeatable. [12:12]
chetty: ok thanks I'll have a look at that [12:13]
mod6: ok :] [12:13]
ben_vulpes: i have achieved a splash screen! [13:03]
mircea_popescu: on yulorah ? [13:03]
ben_vulpes: i am given the opportunity to make a new character, but i cannot select the "New Character" line and clicking "Join" just makes a "chunk" noise [13:03]
ben_vulpes: i have both logged out and quit and hit the same wall each time [13:04]
mircea_popescu: ugh [13:04]
mircea_popescu: as they say... that's a new one [13:04]
chetty: ahh I think thats about where nubbins' got several releases back [13:06]
ben_vulpes: this is on ubuntu 14.04, btw [13:10]
chetty: oh, I was thining mac, no clue on ubuntu, no one else seems to have that issue [13:19]
mircea_popescu: o.O [13:20]
mircea_popescu: ss ? [13:20]
mircea_popescu: in good news : small recipes should now have been fixed. [13:21]
mircea_popescu: we'll see after next server restart. [13:21]
lobbes: idk if this channel has a public log yet, but I got one started here (please excuse the dumb coloring, I'm using irclog2html.py to parse atm): 192.121.170.137/eulora/eulora_log.html [13:23]
mircea_popescu: not bad. [13:23]
chetty: very nice, thankyou [13:24]
lobbes: gonna try to write an automated script to update it every few mins, but I'm still 'learning as I go' [13:24]
lobbes: right now it be manual, lol [13:24]
mircea_popescu: manual ?! o.o [13:25]
lobbes: well, in terms of moving the logs to my var/www/eulora [13:25]
lobbes: and the parsing of said logs [13:25]
mircea_popescu: aha [13:26]
HeySteve: for finding more testers for this game and getting the word out, I think rpgcodex.net/forums is a good place [13:54]
danielpbarron: you have an account there already? [13:56]
HeySteve: MMO and Codex Workshop sections would be right for a thread, maybe not both [13:56]
HeySteve: nah been lurking [13:56]
danielpbarron: ah, I'll make one then [13:56]
HeySteve: it's cool I'll do it [13:56]
HeySteve: know the forum etiquette there [13:57]
HeySteve: but I need to figure out the game first [13:57]
HeySteve: good chance some will troll hard (probably the bitcoin aspect) but otherwise will have wise comments [13:58]
danielpbarron: yes that is typical [13:58]
HeySteve: plenty developers and hardcore game geeks there [13:58]
danielpbarron: people see bitcoin and instinctively get turned off [13:58]
HeySteve: some do but I think the whole economic experiment inside a game is going to interest them too [13:59]
danielpbarron: that's always been my favorite element to these kinds of games [14:00]
HeySteve: can't say I made much progress in eulora but I assume the economy is going to take centre stage? [14:00]
danielpbarron: yes [14:00]
danielpbarron: finally a market based game in which the in-game currency is actually sound [14:01]
HeySteve: cool, I think that's an interesting hook [14:01]
danielpbarron: as opposed to something like KoL where Jick keeps debasing meat [14:01]
HeySteve: happened with WoW and Diablo gold too I believe, tends to happen in most game economies [14:02]
danielpbarron: or D2 where players used SOJ as the de-facto currency because in-game gold was practically worthless [14:02]
HeySteve: right, here the currency has an established external value [14:03]
HeySteve: which the game can't modify [14:03]
HeySteve: so is "the market" setting the exchange rate of btc to in-game currency? [14:03]
danielpbarron: the in-game currency is "copper" and 1 copper is pegged to 1 satoshi [14:04]
HeySteve: ok got it [14:04]
danielpbarron: and you can buy copper from jurov [14:05]
jurov: i have offered him the moment he stepped on eulora soil [14:05]
HeySteve: that's right :) [14:09]
HeySteve: hi Guldi [14:09]
danielpbarron: HeySteve, what is my gender? mudcrab or raptor? [14:11]
HeySteve: dunno you'll have to check by yourself [14:12]
danielpbarron: i mean which is male? [14:13]
danielpbarron: i assume womyns is female [14:13]
HeySteve: don't think so, they've been active in the gamergate wars [14:14]
HeySteve: thoroughly anti-SJW atmosphere there so heed the trigger warnings :P [14:14]
HeySteve: but probably raptor is male [14:15]
mod6: Do you have to be of a certain level to be able to utilize the bandar toolkit properly? I'm trying to make the Leaky Bark Flask, and I have the funny hat equiped, just not really getting anywhere with the Bark Shavings Bundle.. [15:06]
mod6: It just keeps saying "you need to target the item." not sure what that means.. [15:09]
jurov: what hat? [15:16]
jurov: i don't see any hat in the recipe [15:16]
jurov: Combine 12 Indistinct Bark Shavingss, Disgusting Goop, 3 Coarse Frangible Threads, into Leaky Treebark Flask Bundle. [15:16]
jurov: Tinker with Leaky Treebark Flask Bundle into Leaky Treebark Flask using Craft-Table. [15:17]
mod6: eh, to make the flask, you need to make: Combine 12 Indistinct Bark Shavings [15:17]
jurov: targeting means you have to select something, maybe you clicked outside the craft table or so [15:18]
mod6: maybe, but i think there something else.. [15:18]
jurov: you have problems making the bundle? [15:19]
jurov: or which step? [15:19]
mod6: I've made the Indistinct Bark Shavings Bundle np with the craft table. [15:19]
mod6: I can't seem to McGuyver it into Bark Shavings. [15:20]
jurov: you bought a recipe that requires mcguyvering? [15:20]
chetty: a toolkit is sorta like a craft-table, a place to work [15:20]
mod6: yeah. its a container. i've seen that much. [15:21]
mod6: jurov: i found the leaky tree bark flask. so i bought the Indistinct Bark Shavings Sketch [15:21]
mod6: flask receipe [15:22]
jurov: ah so you are stuck making the shavings, not the flask [15:23]
mod6: yes. [15:23]
chetty: sounds like you guys are doing well :) [15:23]
jurov: guess it needs gods... or maybe some triple distillate will give that skill :D [15:30]
chetty: nah its a lot like the problem mod6 had with the last release, figuring out how to actually use things [15:53]
mod6: i may hvae crashed the server. [16:18]
chetty: so you did, just a sec [16:18]
chetty: hmm might be more than sec, srry [16:20]
mod6: np. [16:20]
jurov: lol [16:21]
chetty: can you say what you did? something with equipment but I cant tell exactly what [16:21]
chetty: you had that toolkit in hand maybe? [16:23]
mod6: so i put the bundle of Indistinct Bark Shavings inside the Trusty Bandar Toolkit and placed it on the ground. then I hit the "Use" button. It said "you don't have a proper tool for this..." so I equipped a Cruddy Hoe in my shield hand, then hit use again. [16:23]
mod6: Boom. [16:23]
mod6: No response. Tried to click on the toolkit to pick it up but then got the message. [16:23]
chetty: ahh ok thankyou, a set of circumstances I never thought to check for, but you are on the right track [16:24]
mod6: heheh, ok. [16:24]
chetty: read recipe carefully :) [16:25]
mod6: haha. here we go again. [16:25]
mod6: there should be a bitbet on this. [16:25]
chetty: hahahahaha, just like old times indeed [16:25]
chetty: anyway the long time to restart is not your doing, slight hiccup with some database changes is all [16:26]
mod6: ok np [16:26]
chetty: ok up [16:32]
mircea_popescu: <HeySteve> happened with WoW and Diablo gold too I believe, tends to happen in most game economies << sadly. [16:33]
chetty: check out on eulora how it got crashed [16:33]
mircea_popescu: \x08<\x08HeySteve\x08>\x08\x0F so is "the market" setting the exchange rate of btc to in-game currency? << the way it works atm is that i'm selling game gold for parity to selected merchants. i don't buy back, but that's not stopping THEM from buying back, perhaps at a discount. [16:34]
mircea_popescu: ima let it be like this for a while, but in the future there's probably going to be a fixed rate once the game's gold [16:34]
mircea_popescu: then again the market-made prices might be too good and no need. [16:34]
mircea_popescu: <mod6> It just keeps saying "you need to target the item." not sure what that means.. << you gotta drop the toolkit an' click on it [16:35]
chetty: then he tried to destroy it with a cruddy hoe :P [16:36]
mircea_popescu: :D [16:36]
mircea_popescu: you know this was the old headache of the puizzle game makers [16:37]
mircea_popescu: "but what if player lights rope on fire with the candle ?" [16:37]
mircea_popescu: "shit..." [16:37]
mircea_popescu: because if you put a hundred items in there suddenly there's 10k combinations for players to try [16:37]
mod6: offtopic, i like how you can grow/shrink the size of the item/tools at the top of the screen. [16:37]
mircea_popescu: eulora, of course, has >1k [16:37]
mircea_popescu: aha. [16:38]
mod6: ut oh [16:40]
mod6: blew it up again this time with a Stone Axe in the shield hand [16:41]
chetty: up, I better get this patched quick [16:42]
mod6: oh, my bad. [16:42]
mircea_popescu: lol [16:43]
mircea_popescu: chetty you know, maybe there is something here... maybe in the future we have a magical pebble which can be mined like this for wonderous results... hm... [16:43]
chetty: lo [16:45]
chetty: I think maybe I have it, at least will try it next time you knock her down [16:45]
ben_vulpes: chetty: are there any debug flags i can set with the client to get some info about this dud new character screen? [17:54]
mircea_popescu: jurov http://explo.yt/post/2015/06/05/Eulora-for-Windows << woiuld be an idea to make the links clickable [18:00]
jurov: oh i forgot [18:01]
chetty: ben_vulpes, you can run it in dbg mode see what output you get [18:34]
chetty: unclickable screen ...mouse driver? [18:35]
ben_vulpes: naw, it's *clickable* [18:37]
ben_vulpes: it does not render a character on the spinny dais [18:38]
ben_vulpes: i can spin the dais [18:38]
ben_vulpes: i can click the "new character" button, and it makes 'cunk' noise [18:38]
ben_vulpes: and i can click the "(i think it's called) "create" button, but that too only makes the "chunk" noise and then does nothing. [18:38]
chetty: oh that sounds like a cal3d issue, whats the console say? [18:38]
chetty: also possible your art folder is corrupted [18:40]
mod6: mayday mayday mod6 is trying things [18:42]
chetty: gotcha, hopefully this patch works and thats the end of it [18:42]
chetty: back up [18:42]
mod6: thanks chetty :] [18:42]
mod6: im mentally retarded [18:43]
chetty: yw ;) [18:43]
chetty: bah [18:43]
jurov: i was trying, too. bandar toolbox isisted "you don't have roght tools for the job" [18:45]
mod6: i've got the Sketch, and the hat equiped, the bundle in the toolbox, can't seem to get it right. even tried using "/target nearest item" and things like /use /combine /construct /build, etc. [18:46]
mod6: im missing something obvious like before i think [18:47]
jurov: you silldoing the shavings? me too [18:48]
jurov: *still [18:48]
mod6: yeah [18:48]
ben_vulpes: chetty: only errors i see are "could not load font "/planeshift/data/ttf/reteprelieum.ttf", another like that but referencing "/this/data/ttf/rete..." and an ART ERROR: Invalid material reference ceramic_dds in meshfact 'crafttable' submesh 'crafttable.003-ceramic_dds' [18:48]
jurov: what tool did mcgyver use? [18:48]
mod6: hah, you don't even want to know how long it took me to figure out the recipe equiping from v0.0.0.4 [18:49]
ben_vulpes: also how boot in debug mode [18:49]
jurov: duct tape is not available [18:49]
mod6: jurov: well, he basically just used like, any items around him to like make a rocketship [18:49]
mod6: example "I McGuyvered a bong out of a coke can and a pen." [18:51]
mod6: So two things: A container can not be placed in another container. And the Toolbox cannot be equipped. [18:52]
jurov: ohmy "This container is too worn to be useful" [18:54]
mod6: lol fffffffff [18:55]
jurov: whentrying to combine [18:55]
mod6: i totally got the same message. [18:55]
jurov: in bandar box [18:55]
mod6: just now [18:55]
mod6: same [18:55]
mod6: i put two flosams & a shiny rock in there. [18:55]
jurov: same [18:55]
mod6: you put in the same items? [18:55]
jurov: previously i combined them in crafting table [18:56]
jurov: and put the bundle into bandarbox [18:56]
mod6: yeah me too, and i was throwing the bundle in directly. [18:56]
mod6: *nod* [18:56]
mod6: It seems, that if I take out the 2 flosams and the shiny rock... then it doesn't compain about being worn-out. A clue? [18:57]
jurov: then it is empty? [18:57]
mod6: should have said that i threw the bundle back in there. [18:58]
jurov: craft table says "oops something went wrong, try again" [18:58]
mod6: then tried "use" and "combine" [18:58]
mod6: yeah. the "oops" message happens when it can't go any further, which makes sense., [18:58]
jurov: when i lay bandar box on the ground and try to use it with the bundle, then "you do not have a good tool for this work" [18:59]
mod6: yeah same [18:59]
mircea_popescu: too low quality [18:59]
mod6: jurov: you bought yours didn't you? [19:00]
jurov: i bought [19:00]
mod6: i made mine. [19:00]
mircea_popescu: merchant probably has a low quality one someone sold it [19:00]
mod6: Hmm, ok. bbiaw [19:02]
mircea_popescu: also, you folk got the hats right ? [19:02]
jurov: mod6 what stats does it have? [19:02]
jurov: yes the chair [19:02]
mod6: yeah, got the hat equipped. [19:02]
mod6: stats? one sec. [19:03]
jurov: my toolbox has size:0.807 and weight 1.017 [19:03]
jurov: btw chair is quality 153 [19:03]
jurov: weight 18.875 size 34.699 [19:04]
mod6: Category: Tools 1, Bandar Toolkit Weight: 1.017, Bandar Tool Kit Size: 0.807, Capacity: 0.00/100000000 [19:04]
mod6: my chair qual is 103 [19:04]
mod6: chair size/weight are the same as yours [19:04]
mircea_popescu: decay on toolkit is 2172, so unless you got higher quality you can't really craft with it. [19:04]
jurov: how? improve my crafting first by spinning zillions of coarse threads? [19:06]
mircea_popescu: or find someone who already has [19:06]
mircea_popescu: anyway, a good strategy is to prepare yourself a healthy heap of raw materials for whatever process needs the toolkit. [19:07]
mircea_popescu: by the time you've made them you're prolly lvelled enough [19:07]
ben_vulpes: <chetty> ben_vulpes, you can run it in dbg mode see what output you get << what are the incantations for debug mode? [19:08]
mircea_popescu: (nominal quality on the toolkit actually is >60k, so a 2k one is a pretty banged up instance anyway) [19:08]
mircea_popescu: ben_vulpes i imagine she just means run it as gdb path [19:09]
jurov: mircea_popescu: both adzes and pickaxes need treebark flask, which is made from the damn bark shavings [19:09]
jurov: they are major components of the toolkit [19:10]
mircea_popescu: indeed. [19:10]
mircea_popescu: on the + side, the merchant still has some iirc [19:10]
jurov: but mod6 used them and it did not come out right [19:10]
mod6: i didn't use any bark shavings. [19:10]
mod6: there aren't any for sale. [19:11]
mircea_popescu: tools not shavings [19:11]
jurov: mod6 you bought pickaxes and adzes, no? [19:11]
jurov: mircea_popescu: we're talking about crafting the toolbox [19:11]
mircea_popescu: right. [19:11]
mod6: ah yeah, in my time playing noaw, i think i've bought like 4-5 pickaxes 2-3 adzes and 1-2 hoes. ;) [19:11]
mircea_popescu: mod6 and which do oyu like best ? :D [19:12]
mod6: hoes always get the work done nicely. [19:12]
mircea_popescu: lol [19:12]
mod6: heheh. alright Ladies & Gentlemen. I'll bbiab. [19:13]
ben_vulpes: mircea_popescu: aha [19:13]
jurov: decided to revisit ordinary flotsam claims left... they gobble same supplies as before, but produce only 1 piece of flotsam now! [20:03]
jurov: most expensive flotsam evar [20:03]
mircea_popescu: owch [20:06]
