July 26th, 2015 by Diana Coman
danielpbarron: crashed [00:33]
danielpbarron: chetty, you around? [00:34]
alt072: about the gfx problems, didn't have much time on fixing that yesterday [02:51]
alt072: but laptop is generally slow anyway, not just with the game [02:51]
alt072: so I'm working on setting up another machine before trying again [02:52]
danielpbarron: alternatively, there is a quick fix that might get your framerate up on your laptop [02:52]
alt072: the h12_linux thing you said? [02:52]
alt072: is it just me, or has trilema been down a lot lately? [02:53]
danielpbarron: alt072, http://logs.minigame.bz/2015-07-21.log.html#t16:30:27 [02:53]
lobbesbot: #Eulora log for Tuesday, 2015-07-21 (at logs.minigame.bz) [02:53]
danielpbarron: i haven't noticed trilema being down [02:53]
danielpbarron: i know qntra was getting ddos'd recently [02:54]
alt072: thanks, i'll bookmark that one [02:54]
alt072: has been for me since at least yesterday [02:54]
chetty: morning [05:27]
diana_coman: morning chetty [05:28]
diana_coman: mircea_popescu I can't seem to be able to access trilema at all [05:28]
diana_coman: yesterday it was the same [05:28]
diana_coman: so I can't see the shop nor the post about the event today (I suppose that's what it is about) [05:29]
mircea_popescu: diana_coman yeah you seem to be trying exactly when whatever random derp's trying to ddos it. [05:30]
diana_coman: ahaha, my usual luck at work [05:31]
mircea_popescu: heck, mod6 was complimenting me on it yest. [05:32]
diana_coman: on the ddos? lol [05:33]
mircea_popescu: on the artiucles you can't read. [05:33]
diana_coman: yeah, well...can't read -> can't compliment :p [05:34]
mircea_popescu: incidentally, this along with everything else is just adding to that old pile of "accessibility's always a bad idea". [05:34]
mircea_popescu: someone came up with the bright fucking idea of "teach all kids to read and write", as a result we got dickens and austen. [05:34]
mircea_popescu: someone came up with the bright fucking idea of "oh everyone has a right to internet", as a result we got ddos and the shitpile that is "web". [05:34]
mircea_popescu: someone came up with the bright fucking idea of "oh everyone should have a computer", here comes windows. [05:35]
mircea_popescu: bad fucking ideas, all of them. [05:35]
jurov: yeah, since someone came with the bright fucking idea to crawl out of the oceans, everything went to shit [05:56]
mircea_popescu: mno. [05:57]
mircea_popescu: that part was fine [05:57]
mircea_popescu: not stomping on the face of the other fish "because humanity" however resulted in a lot of marshland. [05:57]
jurov: easy for you to say, you had the means to resist the stomping since 3 if i read your correctly [06:00]
mircea_popescu: yes, im sure it wouldn't be fair. [06:00]
jurov: maybe even came out of the womb fully formed, i dunno [06:01]
mircea_popescu: unfortunately, the alternative is no better. [06:01]
mircea_popescu: i'm trading no long tail for any sort of short tail guarantees. [06:01]
diana_coman: I guess the debate is whether you can really get only lush plains and perky mountains without any marshland basically [06:01]
mircea_popescu: this is the typical "we want all your revenue past 1mn in exchange for 100 a day" [06:01]
mircea_popescu: no deal. [06:01]
mircea_popescu: diana_coman no, because the bar does not scale up. [06:01]
jurov: [citation needed] [06:02]
mircea_popescu: hm ? [06:02]
diana_coman: is eulora server up? [06:03]
mircea_popescu: looks [06:03]
mircea_popescu: heh didja kill it ? [06:03]
diana_coman: only by trying to connect to it maybe :))) [06:04]
mircea_popescu: well i guess my crafting must have killed it then. [06:04]
mircea_popescu: back up [06:04]
diana_coman: ok, thanks [06:04]
mircea_popescu: this brings into active status two changes : shavings are now tinkering not mcguyver [06:04]
mircea_popescu: and cheap rings lapidary not tinker [06:05]
diana_coman: ugh [06:05]
diana_coman: why? [06:05]
diana_coman: btw, need anything mcguyvered? [06:05]
jurov: i myself was often sick child, then almost deaf, people doubted i could manage the usual elementary school [06:06]
jurov: obviously was a bad idea to teach me read and write etc. [06:06]
mircea_popescu: bah. there goes a sharp slag ;/ [06:07]
mircea_popescu: jurov how's sick to do with what's discussed herew ? [06:07]
jurov: how else do you determine? [06:07]
mircea_popescu: it was a bad idea to teach random "pr expert" / "web designer" / what have you to read and write, in all likelyhood. [06:08]
jurov: due to all of tht, i *was* considered retarded, by many then [06:08]
mircea_popescu: jurov you determine exactly like we determine in ba. [06:08]
jurov: post-hoc, i see? [06:08]
mircea_popescu: yeah well, don't saddle me with the inept selection processes of the inhabitants of retardworld. [06:08]
mircea_popescu: "good software could never exist because the companies writing bad softwarew would never hire the people to do it!!" wtf is htis. [06:09]
mircea_popescu: if random derps weren't taught to read and write just because drawing breath, random derps wouldn't be there to opine whether you were or not retarded [06:09]
mircea_popescu: much to your benefit. [06:09]
jurov: that's completely useless argument [06:10]
mircea_popescu: useless it may be. [06:10]
mircea_popescu: diana_coman they were mcguyver before mostly by mistake. they don't belong there in any case. [06:11]
diana_coman: mod6 now I found AE on the starting beach, at 98 33 379 [06:11]
mircea_popescu: oh speaking of that map, mod6 : i was completely unab le to find any SB anywhere on that grassy knoll. i found some in the sandy valley connecting it to the mainland, but the entire grassy area was off limits for me. [06:11]
diana_coman: ok, mircea_popescu still after wpl? anything else? have any tools and/or toolkits? need any mcguyvering done? [06:11]
mircea_popescu: maybe someone withg better skill can investigate wtf is thewre. [06:11]
diana_coman: I did find SB there, so that is ok [06:11]
mircea_popescu: diana_coman lemme paste to you the content of that shop page one secx [06:12]
mircea_popescu: diana_coman you found sb on the grass ? [06:12]
diana_coman: maybe you either got the wrong grassy knoll or the wrong moment [06:12]
diana_coman: yes [06:12]
mircea_popescu: no.fucking.way. [06:12]
mircea_popescu: 20 tries i did, none hit. [06:12]
diana_coman: lol [06:12]
diana_coman: weird [06:12]
diana_coman: I'll go there again now then and have a look [06:12]
mircea_popescu: http://dpaste.com/312XETD < relevant shop section [06:14]
lobbesbot: dpaste: 312XETD (at dpaste.com) [06:14]
diana_coman: uhm, so how does it work, is it an auction ? I make an offer and then...wait ? [06:16]
mircea_popescu: if you pay the price yo ugot it. if not, leave an offer. [06:16]
mircea_popescu: ie, "x or best offer" [06:17]
diana_coman: oh, I see [06:17]
mircea_popescu: kinda how this sort of context works out irl. [06:17]
diana_coman: ok, will take 2 toolkit bundles at that price [06:18]
mircea_popescu: (yes, /me has been having a lot of fun thinking about and trying to transform the mechanisms of irl finance into eulora as is. this "what would X mean in Y" thing being one of the most dearly loved games of the anthropologist) [06:18]
mircea_popescu: there's only 1. [06:18]
diana_coman: loool [06:18]
diana_coman: ok then [06:18]
diana_coman: and an offer for all sticks at 500k each [06:19]
mircea_popescu: alrighty. moving in game [06:19]
mircea_popescu: you in town ? [06:19]
diana_coman: ugh, I was going to check the sb, but will head back [06:19]
mircea_popescu: lemme know if you actually find sb on that grass. [06:37]
diana_coman: I certainly did yesterday [06:51]
mircea_popescu: nuts. [06:52]
diana_coman: mircea_popescu I can confirm: I still get sb there [08:09]
mircea_popescu: nuts. wtf. [08:10]
diana_coman: do you have any coords where you tried? [08:10]
diana_coman: interesting: there seems to be a small blind spot now, maybe you really hit exactly that? [08:13]
mircea_popescu: i covered most of the peninsula, really. did 20 tries. [08:23]
mircea_popescu: maybe it was out when i hit it or who the fuck knows [08:23]
danielpbarron: mircea_popescu, i'll buy the solid branches, coarse frangible thread, slag, leaky treebark flasks, the chetty sticks [08:27]
danielpbarron: and i got stuff to sell [08:27]
mircea_popescu: diana already got the chetty sticks [08:27]
mircea_popescu: she paid 500k per, tho i was selling the package for 750k total o.O [08:27]
mircea_popescu: couldn't resist. [08:27]
diana_coman: danielpbarron what are you selling? [08:28]
mircea_popescu: anyway danielpbarron seee me in game, you get the rest. [08:28]
danielpbarron: k [08:28]
danielpbarron: diana_coman, stuff for mp [08:29]
danielpbarron: shaped slag [08:29]
danielpbarron: used tools [08:29]
diana_coman: oh, ok [08:29]
diana_coman: anything new from the altar? [08:29]
diana_coman: ah, and mircea_popescu as the map says, there is sg afterwards on that peninsula at the end - the sg might be a bit more elusive [08:38]
diana_coman: ha ha: I got a small ennumeration which however was nowhere to be seen (possibly due to full inventory, but it did not even flow into the hand at all) [08:48]
diana_coman: still, I was able to "find" it by asking it directly to equip it [08:48]
danielpbarron: yes there are other hidden inventory slots i'm pretty sure [08:53]
danielpbarron: i'm not sure the hand-overflow is considered part of the inventory [08:54]
danielpbarron: i recall not being able to put stuff directly from it to storage [08:54]
danielpbarron: had to first click them out of the hand and into a real spot [08:54]
chetty: well we try not to have you actually lose stuff ...now where it goes is a mystery :P [08:58]
diana_coman: hmmm, the bot seems to be a bit too quick asking the server for stuff from storage, not sure what to do about it [09:17]
chetty: When is the event on? [10:05]
diana_coman: it's a psGuiStorageMessage to retrieve some items and I noticed that this can happen manually too really [10:13]
diana_coman: like if you click too fast [10:13]
diana_coman: the client does not update quickly enough [10:13]
diana_coman: and you get messages "storage does not have..." [10:13]
diana_coman: tbh it's a semi-issue only in the sense that well, if one has just one pile of each ingredient in storage, then the bot just takes what it needs and everything is fine [10:14]
diana_coman: the trouble is when you have say 3 piles with 1, 2 and 3 items and the bot needs 6 items [10:14]
diana_coman: it will ask first for 1 from the first pile, then immediately next for 2 from the second pile and then 3 from the third pile [10:14]
diana_coman: and it seems to get the "storage does not have..." thing [10:15]
diana_coman: hmmm [10:15]
diana_coman: I might leave it like this for now [10:15]
chetty: well moving stuff in and out of storage requires some table locking so ... [10:15]
diana_coman: yes, I get it, that's why I said that for the time being it might just be this way and that's it [10:16]
chetty: any improvements on my end would risk creating items that arent there [10:17]
diana_coman: I can think of some workarounds for this, but I don't think they are worth the trouble right now [10:18]
diana_coman: will see later maybe [10:19]
diana_coman: I guess I'll just force it to reset and try again basically, even though this means it will keep trying if it truly is out of ingredients, hmmm [10:59]
chetty: 3 stikes and you are out? [11:01]
diana_coman: I guess that would be the only option reall [11:04]
diana_coman: really [11:04]
diana_coman: yet another flag, ugh [11:05]
diana_coman: ha, how nicely it stopped when the container was too worn to be useful... [11:06]
chetty: oh, now thats cool [11:09]
diana_coman: chetty, is there any kind of message sent when target is randomly lost? [11:18]
diana_coman: apparently this target loss still happens and I can't catch it if nothing is sent really [11:18]
diana_coman: :( [11:18]
diana_coman: I re-target after combining, just to make sure [11:19]
diana_coman: but if it just loses target while crafting (hence, after the bundle) there is no way for the bot to even know it :( [11:19]
diana_coman: it's as if really the only reliable way is to ignore the messages and just rely on timing instead, a kind of macro-in-code kind of thing [11:19]
chetty: well asking for a negative is kinda bad. you could maybe pickup if it has somehow changed target, but just losing it is a non-action [11:39]
diana_coman: yeah, I know, but it's really nothing I can do [11:43]
mircea_popescu: target is a client side thing tho neh ? [11:43]
diana_coman: I mean: how can I know that it just lost target [11:43]
mircea_popescu: not like server tells you what your target is [11:43]
diana_coman: uhm [11:44]
diana_coman: thing is: given that I have no idea how/why it loses target randomly when crafting [11:46]
diana_coman: I don't really see how can I address that [11:47]
diana_coman: I guess I could intercept useraction messages that supposedly are sent when targeting [11:47]
diana_coman: but that would work only when the target is lost because of targeting something else [11:47]
diana_coman: which I don't think truly is the case [11:47]
diana_coman: at least not all the time [11:47]
mircea_popescu: i don't think anyone knows wtf all that client does [11:49]
diana_coman: I guess I can try to *lock* the target [11:49]
diana_coman: hoping it actually works... [11:50]
mircea_popescu: but does it have a class or anything that tells you what the target is ? [11:50]
diana_coman: well, it does a lot of bullshit for sure [11:50]
diana_coman: there is a method that supposedly returns the target, yes [11:50]
diana_coman: but what? am I going to poll it ? [11:50]
diana_coman: it's like this: I target, I "use" the target [11:51]
diana_coman: so the crafting starts [11:51]
diana_coman: and then I just wait until a message comes that it's done [11:51]
diana_coman: now if while I wait the target is mysteriously lost [11:51]
diana_coman: how the hell can I know? [11:51]
diana_coman: will try this locking thing, maybe it works [11:51]
chetty: same problem the server has ... but it only asks when it needs to do a calculation based on it [11:51]
diana_coman: that's the only solution I can see so far [11:51]
chetty: << has been toying with idea of freezing players while they are crafting [11:52]
diana_coman: apparently this locking thing is used ONLY when you talk to an npc, lol [11:53]
diana_coman: I think it was working in the sense that I could not get away without pressing "bye" [11:53]
diana_coman: so hopefully that will do it once and for all [11:53]
mircea_popescu: nb. [11:53]
diana_coman: ugh, so target locked, but still lost [12:16]
diana_coman: wonderful [12:16]
diana_coman: as best as I can tell, the issues have to do with switching tabs really [12:21]
diana_coman: but I have no idea what to do about it really [12:21]
diana_coman: can anyone tell me briefly what's this evening's event about? I can't seem to get any luck to read that post on trilema, lol [12:34]
diana_coman: jurov, mod6? [12:35]
jurov: i only remember that anone can ask a question [12:36]
diana_coman: for like, receiving... information? O.O [12:36]
chetty: yes, as I recall it was 1 question from the Oracle [12:40]
jurov: don't remember any conditions.. only that it's one q and offer is involved [12:40]
diana_coman: what are the coordinates where I'll find magical dungbeetles if I dig? [12:41]
chetty: hahaha, why not ask for slithy toves ? [12:42]
diana_coman: I should get those if the bot is fine [12:42]
diana_coman: so well, switching on to next thing, lol [12:42]
chetty: I am not very confident realy answeres will be forth coming, there was also a long hack of 'The Raven' ...the one that keeps saying, Nevermore [12:43]
diana_coman: yeah, that's why I asked this question, as I seriously doubt getting any actually useful information, lol [12:43]
chetty: wonderful poem really, but not exactly happy [12:44]
diana_coman: well, I know the original version and I quite like it, happy or not [12:44]
diana_coman: since I can't seem to be able to access and read mp's version... [12:46]
diana_coman: I can't even guess, lol [12:46]
chetty: it wasnt bad, I enjoyed it [12:52]
thestringpuller: chetty: PwrSrg should be emailing you the stats you need on your models today/tomorrow. [13:14]
danielpbarron: diana_coman> can anyone tell me briefly what's this evening's event about? << anyone can turn in one of my sacrifice tokens in exchange for asking a question [13:39]
danielpbarron: and i have a bunch of tokens [13:39]
danielpbarron: for sale i guess, if the price is right [13:39]
mircea_popescu: o.O [13:48]
diana_coman: thanks danielpbarron [14:21]
danielpbarron: http://danielpbarron.com/eulora/tinker.txt [16:36]
mod6: < diana_coman> mod6 now I found AE on the starting beach, at 98 33 379 << ah ok. [16:56]
mod6: < mircea_popescu> oh speaking of that map, mod6 : i was completely unab le to find any SB anywhere on that grassy knoll. i found some in the sandy valley connecting it to the mainland, but the entire grassy area was off limits for me. << huh, this is interesting. [16:56]
diana_coman: mod6 I think mp's problem was one of timing really [16:57]
diana_coman: like a few moments ago I could barely find ANY flotsam [16:57]
mod6: hmm [16:57]
diana_coman: where it usually is, lol [16:57]
diana_coman: and I insisted there, it's still flotsam I ended up with [16:57]
diana_coman: not something else unfortunately [16:57]
diana_coman: trilema is up, lol [17:12]
diana_coman: or at least I caught it up for once [17:12]
jurov: mod6: mark elusive snails at 214,38 [17:12]
mod6: ok thanks [17:12]
jurov: lotta of them [17:13]
danielpbarron: crashed [17:39]
diana_coman: I was wondering whether it was just my connection again [17:39]
diana_coman: danielpbarron how much do you sell the tokens for? [17:39]
chetty: up [17:40]
diana_coman: mod6 I found wwb in the sands further inland from where one starts, at -43 41 225 [18:11]
mod6: ok thanks diana_coman [19:03]
mod6: :] [19:03]
diana_coman: np :) [19:04]
mod6: Hey All! [19:28]
diana_coman: hello mod6 [19:28]
mod6: Sunday's Oracle event is starting up ! [19:28]
diana_coman: oh [19:28]
mod6: Meet us in "town" to ask a question to the wise and powerful oracle. [19:28]
diana_coman: and get a clever and mocking answer in return [19:29]
mod6: Daniel P. Barron has the tokens of sacrifice if he's still willing to trade/sell 'em. [19:29]
diana_coman: he said 1mil per when I asked [19:29]
mod6: 1M? [19:29]
danielpbarron: ya [19:30]
diana_coman: mod6? [20:33]
