December 17th, 2016 by Diana Coman
mircea_popescu: ehehehe 1,4 mn ecu worth of flotsam ! from a small! [07:56]
shinohai: O.o [08:11]
shinohai: wiwzers [08:11]
mircea_popescu: so nice you know, go to bed, come back to 4k flotsam [08:31]
shinohai: i had some leftover when i sold you my last flotsam run, but its all slag now xD [08:33]
danielpbarron: i thought it was my drunk mod to the bot, but i've got the same problem from the line method : my character eventually gets stuck on the "too injured to explore" message and keeps killing himself [08:34]
danielpbarron: and i'm wondering if the latest server change is the culprit [08:35]
danielpbarron: or if it's the change i made to not build certain claims (although i'm pretty sure that was working fine a week ago [08:36]
mircea_popescu: in truth i've not tried bh mining after the last update [08:50]
mircea_popescu: shinohai did you ? [08:50]
shinohai: not i [08:51]
shinohai: ill try it later today tho and see if the problem occurs with my char [08:53]
shinohai: also, does anyone know if jurov 's lisp stuff is vpatched anywhere? [08:55]
mircea_popescu: which lisp stuff ? [08:57]
shinohai: i thought i remembered someone having a eulora lisp client or something [08:58]
shinohai: maybe wrong [08:58]
mircea_popescu: o.O [08:58]
mircea_popescu: i don't remember giving anyone A FUCKING CASTLE so i dun think so. [08:58]
shinohai: http://minigame.bz/jurov/Eulora-client.git [08:59]
lobbesbot: Title: Index of /jurov/Eulora-client.git (at minigame.bz) [08:59]
mircea_popescu: i recall him starting work on trying to get scripting lispable, but i dun recall how far it went. [09:00]
diana_coman: hello [10:32]
shinohai: she lives [10:32]
mircea_popescu: how's snow diana_coman [10:33]
diana_coman: wonderful! especially when nicely resting inside by the fire [10:33]
shinohai: raises glass to diana_coman 's return, has business to discuss later [10:34]
mircea_popescu: hehe. "it's nice to have it - safely away" [10:34]
diana_coman: heh, congrats on the flotsam mircea_popescu [10:34]
mircea_popescu: yeh! [10:34]
mircea_popescu: o btw did you see auction ? [10:34]
diana_coman: shinohai, I just kind of lazily logged back in to catch up a bit with the eternal euloran summer [10:34]
diana_coman: no, I just fired up the log and stuff [10:35]
mircea_popescu: top o' trilema. [10:35]
mircea_popescu: o, #trilema logs been a riot the past few days lol. [10:35]
diana_coman: http://logs.minigame.bz/latest.log.html#t13:34:49 <- not stuck, no, it'll be fine after some 5-6 killing itself [10:35]
lobbesbot: Title: #Eulora log for Saturday, 2016-12-17 (at logs.minigame.bz) [10:35]
mircea_popescu: *the self killing intensifies* [10:36]
diana_coman: so yeah, it's not as it used to be and it does kill itself several times before everything is fine, but it eventually is fine [10:36]
diana_coman: mircea_popescu, at least I have good stuff to read then, waiting for me :D [10:37]
mircea_popescu: :) [10:37]
diana_coman: mircea_popescu the sad fact with my minign for flotsam is that i mostly get sm <- bwahahahaa [10:39]
mircea_popescu: lol [10:39]
mircea_popescu: fixed meanwhile. [10:39]
mircea_popescu: 90\% flotsam nao [10:40]
danielpbarron: ah, so my change works fine [10:48]
mircea_popescu: danielpbarron actually i'm digging up flotsam, perfect land to test out your bot change. is it published newhere ? [10:49]
danielpbarron: imma bout to do that [10:49]
mircea_popescu: cool deal, i'll put it in as soon as you're done then [10:49]
lobbesbot: Post from eulora: L'Auctionne des Tooleries! <http://trilema.com/2016/lauctionne-des-tooleries/> [11:38]
mircea_popescu: lol that was some delay! [11:55]
danielpbarron: http://danielpbarron.com/2016/the-drunken-explorer/ [12:26]
danielpbarron: mircea_popescu, ^ [12:26]
mircea_popescu: ty! [12:28]
shinohai: ty danielpbarron will try [13:00]
danielpbarron: the commented out part of drunk.txt contained an error when i first published. there was a parenthesis in the wrong place. it is now corrected [15:06]
mircea_popescu: danielpbarron comment also [15:19]
danielpbarron: approved [15:51]
danielpbarron: apparently my pi value was off in the 9th decimal place, also now corrected :/ [15:54]
danielpbarron: i suspect there is some c++ constant already available for using pi [15:54]
danielpbarron: mircea_popescu, http://danielpbarron.com/2016/the-drunken-explorer/#comment-565 [16:09]
danielpbarron: aand, updated again with M_PI instead of 3.1415926535 [16:50]
danielpbarron: seems to work on my machine with this change [16:50]
mircea_popescu: not sure i'd bother to change it myself. [17:59]
mircea_popescu: but it does work just fine, if anyone wants to see it in action im between the house and the tent. [18:00]
mircea_popescu: and have been, for ~5 hours or so [18:00]
mircea_popescu: 601 explore attempts to be precise. [18:00]
danielpbarron: what number did you use for 'size' ? [18:03]
danielpbarron: note that high points on the map also attract the drunk bot, it's just less thrown off by them [18:04]
danielpbarron: i've been using size 24 on my snakeskin spot for a while now [18:04]
mircea_popescu: 9 [18:05]
danielpbarron: it's near a bunch of nasty cliffs and hasn't fallen off yet [18:05]
danielpbarron: 9 is very tight [18:05]
mircea_popescu: i know. good enough to my eye. [18:05]
mircea_popescu: (actually if you feel like it you can calculate the probability to be 9 steps away from the origin once.) [18:06]
danielpbarron: size 1 will make it stick to the starting point, 2 will sometimes move away but mostly go at the center [18:06]
mircea_popescu: yep [18:06]
mircea_popescu: 3 i think is like the minimal-ish [18:06]
danielpbarron: technically, if rand() is really really random, it should be possible to go right off the map even on size 1 [18:07]
danielpbarron: that's where the lengthier version of the code that was commented out would come in, if you wanted to be sure that it doesn't ever do that [18:08]
danielpbarron: it would always go through a cycle of heading towards the center [18:09]
mircea_popescu: it is possible, yes. how likely diff question [18:09]
mircea_popescu: (rand being NOT random makes drift more likely not less) [18:10]
mircea_popescu: (as per definition) [18:10]
danielpbarron: less likely yes, but makes it possible rather than impossible [18:10]
danielpbarron: well not less likely even. the commented out thing is just as random [18:11]
danielpbarron: but not capable of going more than size steps away from center [18:11]
mircea_popescu: yes. [18:11]
mircea_popescu: i'm fucking enjoying just watching this guy mine lol [18:14]
mircea_popescu: been sitting here for the past 10 mins watching it go. it's great for some reason! [18:14]
danielpbarron: same [18:14]
danielpbarron: if you switch the view to be fixed over your guy's head you can see the angles he chooses [18:15]
mircea_popescu: yeah. i tend to just look free camera from a distance [18:15]
mircea_popescu: part of the excitement is you know, "will he boldly go where he hasn't gone before". i kinda root for him :D [18:26]
danielpbarron: come to think of it, even the longer version should eventually go off a cliff, since the return-to-center is square root of size [18:39]
danielpbarron: i think if you made a map of each version they would look the same, given that each had a log size of millions of lines [18:40]
danielpbarron: the shorter version results in a movement that appears smoother [18:41]
mircea_popescu: just about yea. [18:44]
danielpbarron: worldHandler::Turn(((double)rand() / (double)RAND_MAX) * M_PI + (M_PI *1); [18:51]
danielpbarron: here goes [18:51]
danielpbarron: i don't think this will change anything [19:01]
danielpbarron: still moving randomly [19:02]
